DEDICATED TO FAIRNESS: Jessica Trevizo is running for appellate justice to make a real difference in protecting fairness and integrity in our justice system. As an experienced trial lawyer, she knows exactly what happens in the courtroom: how evidence is presented, how juries are instructed, and how legal rulings affect real people.
Trevizo's deep, practical knowledge will be essential to her role on the appellate bench, where justices must decide whether trial courts got it right. Her firsthand experience gives her the insight needed to identify errors, uphold the law, and ensure that every person receives a fair and just outcome.
BROAD PERSPECTIVE NEEDED TO SERVE AS AN APPELLATE JUSTICE: Jessica Trevizo has a broad perspective encompassing criminal and civil law. This is important as the 5th District Court of Appeals handles all civil, criminal and family law appeals from a six-county region in North Texas, including Dallas, Collin, Rockwall, Grayson, Hunt and Kaufman counties.
Trevizo is running for Appellate Justice because voters deserve judges who truly understand what happens in the courtroom. As a seasoned trial lawyer, she has seen firsthand how justice can be won or lost in the details. That experience matters. On the appellate bench, she will review decisions made in trial courts to ensure the law was applied fairly and people were treated with dignity and respect. Trevizo knows the system from the inside, and she is running to make sure it works for everyone.
LEGAL EXPERIENCE: Jessica Trevizo is currently a Felony Division Chief with the Office of Dallas County District Attorney John Creuzot. She has worked at the DA's office since 2012, handling more than 160 trials. Before this, she worked as a civil trial lawyer in asbestos bankruptcy. She has also served at the U.S. Department of Labor, Catholic Charities, and as a clerk for the 14th Civil District Court in Dallas County.
Trevizo has prosecuted a variety of domestic violence cases including aggravated assaults, strangulation assaults, murder and capital murder. She served as Deputy Chief of the Family Violence Division and at one point she oversaw the Misdemeanor Family Violence Division, which allowed her to help educate young prosecutors on the importance of prosecuting domestic violence cases. During her tenure in family violence, Trevizo learned about the nexus between domestic violence and animal abuse and cruelty crimes.
Trevizo's fluency in Spanish has allowed her to reach out to the Latino communities in order to educate domestic violence victims on the importance of seeking help and the safety resources that they may not know are available to them due to a language barrier. Trevizo has worked to educate prosecutors, the community and law enforcement on the prosecution of domestic violence, domestic violence strangulation, and animal abuse cases.
ADDITIONAL BACKGROUND AND EDUCATION: Jessica Trevizo is a proud first-generation Mexican-American who was raised in Cedar Hill, Texas. Growing up, she learned the value of hard work, perseverance, and integrity by watching her parents work 12-hour shifts, six days a week to support their family and build a better future. Their dedication inspired Trevizo to pursue her education with the same drive and determination.
Trevizo earned her Bachelor of Arts in Political Science and Business from Texas Christian University and went on to receive her law degree from Southern Methodist University’s Dedman School of Law. Her personal journey, from a working-class household to the courtroom, reflects her deep commitment to justice, service, and the belief that every voice deserves to be heard.
